Farmingdale, N.Y. – November 12, 2008 – Amana Tool, manufacturers of industrial-quality carbide-tipped and solid carbide woodworking tools, today introduced its Stub Spindle and Cope Cutter Door System for creating entry doors, screen doors and paneled cabinet doors with tenons of any length. The system, developed in cooperation with master woodworker Lonnie Bird, combines the look of traditional cope and stick doors with the strength and longevity of true mortise-and-tenon joints.
“The Stub Spindle and Cope Cutter System offers the highest quality cuts and finishes for fine cabinetry and door making,” said Lonnie Bird. “For woodworkers who like the look of cope and stick doors and appreciate the durability of mortise-and-tenon woodworking, this router bit set provides the perfect solution.”
The unique router bit set uses a stub spindle and a counter-bored cope cutter that is secured to the spindle with a cap screw. This design allows the tenon to pass over the cope bit unobstructed for making extended length tenons. A matching profile bit shapes the decorative ogee “sticking” profile along the edges of the stiles and rails. The set is used to create 1-3/4” thick entry doors, screen doors and cabinetry with table-mounted routers.
“Through our work with Lonnie, we’re able to provide industrial-quality tools for woodworking hobbyists,” said Amana Tool technical director, Frank Misiti. “We strive to continually bring technical innovation to our products in order to help customers improve everyday tasks such as door making.”
The Entry Door Bits are designed for 1-3/4” stock and cost $73.65 for the cope cutter with stub spindle (part 47511) and $67.35 for the ogee bit (part 54131). The Screen Door Bits work with 1-1/8” stock and cost $59.21 for the cope cutter with stub spindle (part 47513) and $52.58 for the ogee bit (part 54173). Prices for the Cabinet Door Bits are $66.34 for the cope cutter with stub spindle (part 47515) and $56.85 for the ogee bit (part 54175) and are designed for stock from 13/16” to 7/8”. Each set comes with an instruction manual and step-by-step project guide written by Lonnie Bird.
