Chair?

I'm using QSWO (Quarter Sawn White Oak) and have bandsawn the legs "close". I was going to use a flush trim bit to get exact, with a piece of 1/4 masonite attached with double stick tape as a bearing guide. In an article on the chair, tit is recommended to use Amana bit 45486, which appears to be a huge router bit. Why do you think such a large bit is recommended? Wouldn't a regular flush trim bit work?
Thanks

Amana no.45486 is a straight bit and it cannot be used for flush trimming because it lacks a guide bearing.

However, Amana has a router bit that will work for trimming the legs in your chair project.

I recommend Amana no.45362. This is a large diameter bit with a 1-1/2" cutting length so it should only be used in a router table with a jig. The jig should be wide enough to position your hands a safe distance from the bit and long enough so that the bearing contacts the jig before the bit contacts the workpiece. This ensures a smooth start to the cut. In addition to cloth double stick tape, I recommend that the jig be equipped with toggle clamps to keep the stock firmly seated in the jig. Also, start by bandsawing the workpiece within 1/32" of the layout line. This will minimize the depth of cut and increase safety.
